Benjamin Ochieng

Reel Artistes Management (RAM) was founded by Benjamin Ochieng after he worked in the blockbuster movie “Tears of the Sun” starring Bruce Willis and Monica Belluci. The movie was shot in Hawaii and it cast the largest number of Africans ever cast at one time in a Hollywood movie. The producers went to great lengths to assemble authentic Africans to play the roles for Africans portrayed in the movie. When they could not get any more Africans in America who could work they went as far as recruiting them right from the continent of Africa.

It was a costly but successful effort on the part of the movie producers who for the first time had real Africans act in all the African roles. This has not been the case in the past and many African actors have felt cheated when they saw their roles played by African Americans who inaccurately portrayed them both in speech and mannerism.

This is what made Mr. Ochieng realize the need for a USA based Management Company for African Actors. And that’s how RAM was born.

RAM is probably the only Management Company that exclusively represents African actors and other less utilized Nationalities like the Aborigines, Samoans, Native Americans etc.

RAM probably has the largest database of African actors from the continent of Africa living in the USA. Many of these actors are members of SAG, AFTRA and other unions. Non-union African actors are also represented in our database.

The introduction of RAM into the casting business has not only leveled the playing field but has given Hollywood producers easy access to available African actors who have otherwise been neglected because of lack of representation.

When approached by movie producers to cast for authentic African-strong movies, many casting directors can rest assured that they will get all the African actors they need at RAM. This is not only a relief to the casting directors but also to the African actors who are now assured of continued employment in the entertainment industry.

RAM will continue its efforts to support and get employment for all the many hard working African actors and their efforts to make their presence and skills felt and utilized in the entertainment industry.

RAM has also placed many African voice-over actors in movies such as “A Night at the Museum”, “Primeval”, “A path to 911”, “E-RING”, “A league of extraordinary gentlemen”, “Mighty Joe Young” and others that needed authentic African sounds and voices in them.

RAM has created a voice for African and other under-utilized nationalities and hope to continue doing so for many years to come.
